Robin Dunbar is a prominent British biological anthropologist and evolutionary psychologist. He is Professor Emeritus of Evolutionary Psychology in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford.
Dunbar is best known for his work on the evolution of sociality and cognition, particularly for formulating Dunbar's Number.
This concept suggests a cognitive limit to the number of individuals with whom any one person can maintain stable social relationships, often cited as approximately 150. His research on this topic stems from the "social brain hypothesis," which posits that the size of an animal's brain, specifically the neocortex, correlates with the complexity of its social group.
